Hilde Berner Hammer is specialist in rheumatology and works as professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo and as consultant at the Department of Rheumatology, Diakonhjemmet Hospital. The main scientific and clinical interests is the use of ultrasound in rheumatology. She has been involved in several yearly international ultrasound courses the last 18 years as well as developing and being in charge of rheumatological ultrasound courses in Norway, where two of these courses are required to become specialist in rheumatology. She is part of a broad international collaboration on ultrasound and participated in many international studies. In addition, she has for many years been interested in rheumatological pain and hold courses on pain for the last 12 years. Another interest is the development of new, more sensitive markers of inflammation in rheumatology, and she has introduced the use of plasma calprotectin in evaluation of inflammatory disease activity.
